One had a tragic end coronavirus denier in Norway, who died from Covid-19 after holding two rallies at his property.
Hans Kristian Gaarder, 60, tested positive for the virus and died on April 6, about 40 miles north of Oslo. A few days before his death, the proponent of conspiracy theories had organized two illegal gatherings in a barn on March 26 and 27.
Several people who attended the rallies were also positive for the coronavirus and spread the virus to others with whom they later came in contact, according to the Daily Mail, citing the country’s media.
The Hadeland newspaper reported that at least 12 people tested positive after participating in these rallies. Police are now trying to determine the exact number of people present.
Local authorities believe Gaarder may have been ill several weeks ago without informing anyone, newsinenglish.no reported.
Authorities confirmed the death of a man in his 60s, saying: “A man in his 60s living in Gran died after contracting a coronavirus. The man had not been tested for the coronavirus before his death, but was later confirmed to have been infected with the virus.
Two events took place, on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 March in a place owned by the man. We do not know how many and who participated, but we ask the participants to take a test as soon as possible “.
The chief doctor of the area said in a statement that the death was “a sad message that we must take into account”. “It reminds us again how dangerous the virus can be and how important it is to endure strict measures for a while longer.”
Rallies have been banned in the area since March 16 in a bid to curb infections. On Wednesday, Norway announced 599 new cases of coronavirus and 18 deaths.
Gaarder was a well-known coronavirus denier who had appeared on television and wrote in online magazines. It was often claimed that coronavirus can be compared to the common cold and shared posts on Facebook, which the social networking site described as “false information”.
