Denmark today recorded a record number of new Covid-19 cases, with 5,120 infections in a 24-hour period, just days after new restrictions were put in place to stem the tide.
The health authorities also decided to impose a mandatory test on travelers from Doha and Dubai, following the detection in Denmark of a case of the new Omicron variant in a passenger returning from Qatar.
Like other European countries, Denmark is facing a record increase in Covid cases.
In one week, the number of infections is at its highest level, at 30,600 cases, an increase of 8.8% compared to last week, according to data from the Danish health authorities, which came to the knowledge of the French Agency.
The previous daily record of 4,508 new cases was recorded on December 18, 2020 in the country of 5.8 million inhabitants, where 86.7% of citizens over the age of 12 have been vaccinated.
Later today, at 19.00 Greek time, the Prime Minister of the country, Mete Frederiksen, is expected to give a press conference on the health situation.
Six cases of the new Omicron variant have already been identified in Denmark, five of them to travelers from South Africa and one to a traveler from Qatar.
