The Prime Minister of Denmark announced today that her government will propose new restrictions in order to stop the rapid spread of the coronavirus and the new variant strain Omicron, which now accounts for one-fifth of all cases recorded in the country.
“In record time, the rules of the game have changed again,” Mete Frederisken told Omicron in a press conference.
The new restrictions, which will need Parliament’s approval, include the closure of venues such as theaters, cinemas, amusement parks and conference centers.
The country has set a new record with more than 11,000 cases in the last 24 hours, including the new record with more than 2,500 cases of the Omicron variant, the government said in a press conference.
Deaths and hospitalizations, however, are much lower than a year ago. The total number of deaths in Denmark due to complications of Covid-19 is 3,054.
