Denmark on alert: Army deployed as attacks on ‘Jewish and Israeli’ sites feared

An alarm has been raised at Denmark as well as in his shadow Israel-Hamas war it is deemed necessary to protect Jewish targets from terrorist attacks.

In this context, the army will be mobilized to help the police in the security work around “Jewish and Israeli” locations in Copenhagen, as the Danish Ministry of Defense announced today on Sunday.

“The situation in Israel and Gaza is very stressful to the police. In this context, it was decided that the armed forces would support the surveillance of Jewish and Israeli sites in Copenhagen“, like the synagogue or the Israeli Embassysaid Defense Minister Trelles Lund Poulsen.

The soldiers will be deployed from December 6th for an indefinite period. The needs will be regularly reassessed, the Ministry of Defense says on its website.

Several demonstrations in response to Israel’s war against Hamas, combined with the Koran burnings that took place in the Scandinavian country, they have burdened the work of the Danish police.

We are in a situation where the terrorist threat that Denmark is facing is serious”, warned Minister of Justice Peter Hammelgaard. “The conflict in the Middle East has led to a completely unacceptable increase in anti-Semitism and insecurity among Jews in Denmark“, he added.

From 6,000 to 8,000 people of Jewish religion live in Denmark, according to Utrikespolitiska institutet, an independent research institute.

Asked by AFP if a similar measure would be taken for Muslim sites in the country, the Ministry of Defense was not immediately able to respond.
