Denmark: Queen Margrethe stripped titles from four of her grandchildren

The royal titles of four of her grandchildren were removed by queen Margaret of Denmark. These are the children of Prince Joachim, of her second sonwho has been married twice and has four children ranging in age from 23 to 10.

“From January 1, 2023, the descendants of His Royal Highness Prince Joachim will only be able to use the titles of Count and Countess of Montbezat, while the titles of Prince and Princess of Denmark cease to exist,” the palace statement said.

The mother of Prince Joachim’s two eldest sons said she was “shocked” by the decision. “This came out of nowhere. Children feel excluded“, said Countess Alexandra to the BT newspaper. “They can’t understand why their identity is being taken away from them,” he added.

According to the announcement “the Queen wants to create the framework so that her four grandchildren to be able to shape their lives to a much greater degree without being constrained by the special requirements and duties that come with an official relationship with the Royal House of Denmark». The publication states that Prince Joachim’s four children retain their places in the line of succession.
