Dentist convicted of murder and on the run for 18 years is arrested in southern Bahia

After remaining on the run for 18 years, dentist Pedro Marques Motta, 71, was arrested last Saturday (12) in the rural area of ​​Santa Cruz Cabrália, in the extreme south of Bahia.

He was sentenced to 23 years in prison for the murder of Cláudio Rocha, aged 39 at the time, and for the attempted murder of his ex-partner, who was 36 years old at the time. The crimes occurred in 2006, in the city of Cataguases, Minas Gerais.

According to the complaint from the Public Ministry of Minas Gerais (MPMG), Pedro Motta committed the crimes because he did not accept his ex-wife’s relationship with the owner of a restaurant.

Armed with a 7.65 caliber pistol, he killed Cláudio Rocha and injured his wife. Since then, he was on the run, and for the last three years, he was one of the targets of the “MPMG Busca” project, being considered one of the most wanted criminals in Minas Gerais.

The arrest was the result of an operation conducted by MPMG intelligence teams and civil police, who, after traveling more than 3 thousand kilometers and employing investigative techniques, located Pedro Motta in an isolated house in the rural area of ​​Santa Cruz Cabrália.

Now, the MPMG has requested the convict’s transfer to Minas Gerais, where he will serve a 23-year prison sentence.
