Denzel Washington and Spike Lee to remake Japanese crime thriller

The Oscar winner Denzel Washington and the director Spike Lee will work together on the remake of a Japanese crime thriller. The information was released by Apple Original Films and A24 this Thursday (09).

High and Low ” will be an English-language retelling of the Japanese film made by Akira Kurosawa in 1963.

This will be once again that Spike Lee will remake a Japanese film. In 2013, he made the version of “Oldboy – Days of Vengeance”, adapting the 2003 Japanese film.

Spike Lee and Denzel Washington have already formed several partnerships and this will be the fifth project between them. The last time they worked together was on “The Perfect Plan”, from 2006. The two also teamed up on “Mais e Melhores Blues”, “Malcolm X” and “Jogada Decisiva”. For “Malcolm X”, Washington was nominated for an Oscar.

Spike Lee received three award nominations and won an Honorary Oscar for his work in 2016. He only won his first Oscar in 2019, in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay in 2019 for “Klansman”.

The new version of “High and Low” will begin production in March this year. In addition to serving as director, Lee will also be the executive producer of the film.
