Deolane Bezerra leaves prison and goes to house arrest

After 5 days in prison at the Recife Women’s Penal Colony, lawyer and influencer Deolane Bezerra left prison in Recife. She was granted the right to house arrest through the courts.

Now, in addition to electronic monitoring, the businesswoman will have to follow some rules, such as not speaking on social media or in the press, and not contacting other people being investigated in Operation Integration, launched by the Civil Police of Pernambuco.

Deolane was placed under house arrest after her group of lawyers filed a habeas corpus petition last Thursday (5). Deolane’s mother, Solange Bezerra, however, was not benefited by the TJPE decision and remains imprisoned in the Recife Women’s Penal Colony.

They are being investigated in an operation that aims to prevent money laundering and illegal gambling. According to the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE), the case is being processed in secret, as the case is in the initial phase of the police investigation.

Decision

The decision of the Court of Justice of Pernambuco (TJPE) to grant house arrest to lawyer and influencer Deolane Bezerra and Maria Eduarda Filizola, wife of Darwin Henrique da Silva Filho, owner of Esportes da Sorte, was reportedly based on article 318 of the Penal Code.

Clause 5 states that “the judge may replace preventive detention with house arrest for a woman with a child under 12 years of age”, as long as the crime was not committed under violence or serious threat, or against the children (and dependents). Therefore, Deolane’s mother would not have been granted the appeal.
