Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine: He harshly criticized the North Atlantic Alliance

Strong security guarantees to prevent further military escalation, demanded the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Olia Stefanisina.

At the same time, he criticized the North Atlantic Alliance. “NATO’s stance not to ‘bother’ Russia,” he said, “has provoked four wars on the European continent in the last 20 years.”

Four wars

From Lviv, the Deputy Prime Minister of Zelensky, Olia Stefanisina, responsible for the European and Euro-Atlantic integration of her country, appeared critical of NATO, answering a question from ERT and journalist Elvira Krithari.

Question: Do you think that Ukraine’s desire to join NATO was expressed at the wrong time and what is your country’s position today?

Olia Stefanisina: “Of course not. Ukraine’s accession to NATO dates back to 2008 when Germany and France refused to provide Ukraine with an action plan for accession. (…) The sad thing is that either it was in 2008 with the war in Georgia and then in Ukraine and the annexation of Crimea, or in 2021 when all 30 allies confirmed that Ukraine would join NATO, or it is the 25th day of this war in our territory, NATO’s narrative has not changed.

The issue is not Ukraine

They did not want to irritate Russia, so the issue is not Ukraine. “NATO needs to redefine its approach, because its reluctance to bother Russia has already led to four wars in the last 20 years on the European continent.”

Mrs. Stefanisina stressed on ERT’s camera the special relationship between Greece and Odessa, where she comes from, and appealed to our country to support Ukraine’s European perspective.

“First of all, support our candidacy in the EU together with the member states that are close to you. I am also from Odessa and Greece plays an important role in the history of Odessa, as does Odessa respectively.

That is why save Odessa, help save our historical heritage, the Greek heritage in Odessa and I believe that this must be part of a personal commitment of your government, to preserve this very important element of our common history and to emphasize ” noted the Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine.

Nowhere is it safe in Ukraine

Asked about the recent attacks in western Ukraine, Ms. Stefanisina said only military targets had been hit, but that no part of Ukraine was safe even if no attacks had been reported so far.

“The attacks in (western) Ukraine targeted military infrastructure without affecting civilians. “They understand (the Russians) that a large part of the humanitarian aid is passing through parts of Ukraine near the border, so we are organizing an emergency plan but I can not go into details,” he said.

Olia Stefanisina stressed the need to close Ukraine’s airspace, which is a firm appeal of her government.
