Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister Olga Stefanisina has said that NATO is partly responsible for the deaths of civilians in the country because it refuses to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine.
Speaking to BBC Radio, Stefanisina said: “It is inhumane to know that the civilian population and children will be killed by not making this decision.”
“The blood of these civilians – including the mother and father of two children who were born just yesterday and just today lost their parents in a bombing – is not only in Russian hands,” he said.
She apologized for not being diplomatic in her choice of language, but said she was speaking while “in a shelter”.
NATO members have refused to implement a no-fly zone, fearing it would escalate the conflict by putting Western powers in direct combat with the Russian air force.
