The São Paulo Public Security Bureau announced the arrest of two suspects for the death of cyclist Vitor Medrado, murdered in front of the People’s Park, in the west of the state capital.
The case, which impressed the population of São Paulo, gained new contours with the statements of the secretary Guilherme Derrite During a press conference on Wednesday (19).
According to Derrite, there is no specific motivation for crime. “We believe it was just cowardice on the part of this killer, who has no explanation,” said the secretary.
He stressed that there was no prior relationship between the suspect and the victim, thus discarding any hypothesis of revenge or personal conflict.
Details of the prison and investigation
Two individuals were arrested in connection with the crime. One of them, identified as Erick Benedito Veríssimo he is appointed as the author of the shooting and was arrested in the act on March 8.
The second suspect, named after Jeferson de Souza Jesus would have provided crucial information that led to the identification of the weapon used in the murder.
Secretary Derrite took the opportunity to criticize the Brazilian penal system.
“Unfortunately in Brazil, the criminal is not afraid of being arrested, is not afraid of the law. He is afraid of the police, he is afraid to meet a police car,” he said.
Remember the case
After being shot at the back of his neck, Vitor Medrado was rescued and sent to the Hospital das Clínicas, but did not resist and passed away.
A video recorded by a security camera shows the moment Vitor is approached by two men who were on a motorcycle and is then shot.
The images show that both criminals approach the cyclist and soon shoot. Vitor falls to the floor and one of the bad guys get off the bike and picks up his cell phone. Then the two robbers flee.
According to the police report, the person who called the Military Police reported that the criminals shot without even announcing the robbery.
