Deserto Particular hits theaters this Thursday (25th)

A movie private desert, by director Aly Muritiba, debuts this Thursday (25) in Brazil. This is the Brazilian feature chosen to try for a spot at the Oscar 2022.

The film was submitted to the Hollywood Film Academy and could be one of the nominees for Best Foreign Film. Only five film productions from around the world will be selected.

“If it happens, I’ll be super happy. And if it doesn’t, it’s all right. The important thing is that the film is already finding an audience here in Brazil and in some parts of the world, and it is touching many people”, said the director to CNN.

For the president of the Committee of the Brazilian Academy of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (ABCAA), Leonardo Edde, private desert is a message from Brazil to the world.

“I think the movie comes at the right time. It presents Brazil in this sense, it is a message from the Brazilian audiovisual for us to have more love, more passion, compassion and empathy with our people.”

Brazil has not been nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Film since 1999, when Central do Brasil, Walter Salles work, competed in the category of Best Foreign Film and Best Actress, with Fernanda Montenegro.

private desert its protagonist is an exemplary police officer, Daniel, who ends up committing a serious mistake that puts his career and his honor at risk. The film takes place in Curitiba and is also about Daniel’s relationship with Sara, a woman with whom he has a virtual relationship.

“I have felt, in the public sessions that the film is made, that viewers have reacted in a very positive way to the film because I believe that we are all in great need of hugs, affection, affection and the film offers that”, said Muritiba.
