The twentieth edition of SP-Arte has a section dedicated to design that is 50% larger than last year's edition. There are stands with chairs, armchairs, tables, rugs, lamps… everyday objects that gain sophistication, modernity and are designed by great artists.
This year's fair sees the return of designer Jader Almeida with some of his creations. An exhibition with the artist's products that reveal the intersection between design and art.
“In people's lives it is almost something that is complete, art and design have these intersections. Sometimes they get confused, because while the function of design is to have a use, a characteristic, art exists for the sake of existing, it is an expression”, says the designer.

According to Jader, the sector has been growing in recent years. “When we look at history, the history of art itself, it keeps updating, changing, adapting to the passing of time. According to technology and society's inclinations in recent times, design has been gaining prominence, after all it is a theoretically new discipline within society. Design and art being confused is not a trend, it is a natural path of a perception that society is having”, he states.
The designer also says that art and design together are a natural path.
“If we look at a piece like a table, as a design we can say it is a table, but if we look at it from a subjective point of view it is a sculpture and this sculpture can travel through time. Who knows hundreds of years or maybe 1000 years. This message that will reverberate over time is something that arises from the thought of art and design”, he adds.
Another highlight of the fair is the Tactile exhibition: materials in contemporary design, curated by Livia Debbané. The collective highlights the investigation of raw materials and presents a sensorially diverse landscape of design linked to the domestic environment.
Two decades of SP-Arte
