In an interview with CNN the mother and sister of Vitória Chaves da Silva, a young man who went through three heart transplants and was exposed on social networks, spoke about the discovery of the video in which Gabrielli Farias de Souza and Thaís Caldeiras Soares Foffano, medical students, mocked their daughter.
“It was 26 years of fighting, diminished in a 2 -minute video, totally wrong,” says Claudia Chaves.
The woman says she once took her daughter’s device and found a message from a friend about a tiktok post that talked about her case. The mother says that when she first watched the video was suppressed by the way Gabrielli and Thais spoke of the girl.
“At first I was amazed to see that my daughter’s case was being exposed so clearly. Only then, in the end came sadness, despair. I started to cry,” commented Claudia.
“We saw this as something very offensive. Their lines made room for other people to speak badly from my sister. In addition, when they did not take medications, they allowed people to attack my sister. As if, as a child and after an adult, she had not received the necessary care, which was not true,” said the sister. Giovanna Chaves.
The published video was recorded on the premises of the Hospital das Clínicas of the University of São Paulo School of Medicine, where the 26 -year -old patient Vitória Chaves da Silva was hospitalized. The patient died on February 28, days after the video recording.
The Case of Victory
Claudia said she was 6 months pregnant when she made an ultrasound that showed the heart of dilated victory. The moment she was born, the young woman was diagnosed with anomaly of Ebstein, a rare disease. According to her, the doctors said she would live at most 15 days. At the age of 2, the girl had surgery and came to the weight the doctors wanted, but the procedure did not solve.
“We had to go to Sao Paulo. There, we received the news she would need a transplant. She was a and a half in line, did the transplant, was fine and developed. After 11 years, the first transplant began to give problem.”
The girl’s mother says she got in line again, which stayed for ten months. “And again, the problem was the heart, but not for lack of medication, but by the aggravation caused by the medicines themselves. Because the transplant has a survival time. He is not forever, only prolongs the patient’s life,” said Claudia.
Giovanna reported that about five years after the first transplant, Vitória already had half of the committed cardiac function. “Even so, she lived with that heart for another four years. So if she hadn’t taken her medications, she wouldn’t have lived all this time.”
Investigation
The mother says that the first step in the investigation was to look for the closest police station where the family lives to make the complaint. According to her, the case was registered as a civil occurrence, but not as a crime. The woman sought the Regional Council of Medicine (CRM).
The agency claimed that because they were students, those involved were not registered with CRM and, therefore, the complaint could not be made.
For Giovanna, that what the students did was “unethical”. She considers that the young women exposed the case and affirmed untrue things. In addition, they gave very specific details about a rare case.
“In the comments, they say they had permission [para falar sobre o caso]but they didn’t. They say they made a written case report. We want this account to prove, but the institutions say that this is not in their hands and Incor also does not respond whether it is with them or not.
Appropriate measures
Vitória’s mother says the decisions fit the judge responsible for the case and will accept what he determines. She states that the greatest desire of the family is that the case will serve as an example, not only for students, but for all health institutions.
“I really wanted people, before judging, research what a transplant is, how long it lasts, what diseases the medicines cause. And to stop saying that I want to appear. I don’t want to. I just want to live my daughter’s mourning and it’s not being easy. Then I would like to go with one son or relative of you? On top of hospitals, difficulties, and show that there has to be ethics, confidentiality. Things can not be so.
What do those involved say
In a note sent to CNN USP’s Medina Faculty stated that Gabrielli Farias de Souza and Thaís Caldeiras Soares Foffano are part of other institutions and that they were in the hospital due to an extension course of about a month. In addition, he clarified that they do not have any academic bond with the college.
“FMUSP vehemently repudiates any form of disrespect for patients and reaffirms non -negotiable commitment to ethics, human dignity and values that guide good medical practice. The institution also reinforces the mission of training professionals committed to excellence and human care, values that are non -negotiable in our institution,” the note added.
