Despite throttling, AMD GPU in Exynos 2200 outperforms latest GPU Mali

The AMD GPU inside Exynos is reportedly outperforming the latest Mali chips despite throttling.

It has been known for a long time that AMD and Samsung are working on a new Radeon GPU, which will be part of the new Samsung Exynos SoC. AMD recently confirmed at Computex that the new Exynos mobile GPU will be based on the company’s current RDNA 2 architecture.

Now it is reported that this GPU easily outperforms the latest Arm Mali GPUs that Samsung is currently using despite heavy throttling. In addition, there is evidence that the GPU, called mRNDA, will be faster than the next generation GPU Mali.

AMD is currently testing the new GPU internally. After the first round of testing, the GPU performance drops by 20%. After the second round, the drop in mRNDA performance is 30%.

Despite this, the mRNDA GPU is still faster than competing solutions. At the same time, it is reported that the South Korean giant is impressed with the results and wants to extend the contract for the use of new AMD GPUs in its future single-chip systems.

In addition, it was reported that Google is also interested in using such GPUs in its smartphones.
