A detailed study of a complete digital scanner of the Titanic reveals new information about the last hours of the fatal ship. The exact 3D representation shows the violence by which the ship was torn in two, as it sank after the iceberg in 1912, with 1,500 passengers losing their lives. The scanner provides a new image of one of the ship boilers, confirming survivors’ testimonies that engineers were working until the last minute to keep the ship’s lights on. A computational simulation also indicates that the holes in the hull of the ship, about an A4 leaf, led to its destruction. “The Titanic is the last surviving witness of the tragedy, and continues to have stories to tell us,” said Titanic analyst Park Skrenson.
