Simon Morris, head of strategy at Consensys, revealed details about the MetaMask Snaps update during the Korean Blockchain Week 2023 conference. He emphasized that the main goal of the protocol is to bring the project outside the EVM ecosystem, writes RBC Crypto with reference to Cointelegraph.
The protocol will allow third-party extensions to be loaded into the MetaMask crypto wallet. This will provide users with access to other networks, Morris said.
Simon Morris compared the Snaps protocol to the Apple App Store. After the update is complete, releasing new dApps for MetaMask will be no more difficult than building apps on the web, he noted.
Consensys plans to conduct a detailed review of the first round of Snaps and then whitelist some of them. After that, the process will be greatly simplified, Morris said.
In May, Consensys clarified its position on possible withholding taxes on intra-wallet transfers. Earlier in the cryptocurrency community, they started talking about the fact that MetaMask will hold the cryptocurrency of users who do not pay taxes on transactions inside the wallet.
