Devastating rains in Rio Grande do Sul kill 78 people; 105 are missing

O number of deaths from the heavy rains that hit Rio Grande do Sul rose to 78 , according to a Civil Defense bulletin released on Sunday night (5). Another four deaths are under investigation to find out whether there is a relationship with the meteorological events.

Also according to Civil Defense, 105 people are missing across the state . Another 175 people were injured because of the rains.

The data still points 341 municipalities affected out of a total of 497 in the state, which represents a little more than 2/3 of the total.

Regarding the homeless, the number is 18,487. The homeless number 115,844. The total number of people affected is 844,673.

Guaíba devastates Porto Alegre

The lake Guaíba reached 5.31 meters this Sunday (5) , record levels in the history of Porto Alegre. The previous mark was 4.76 meters, which occurred in 1941. The city hall issued a warning for catastrophic flooding in the capital.

According to the city hall, 60 roads are completely blocked in Porto Alegre, and 13 are partially blocked. Several license plates of cars that were lost due to flooding were collected.
