Developed by Mitsubishi Electric allows contactless monitoring of vital signs within the line of sight

Mitsubishi Electric recently unveiled a development called HealthCam, which provides non-invasive line-of-sight vital signs monitoring. A working prototype of the HealthCam, shown at CES, is capable of detecting body temperature, respiration rate, blood oxygen saturation, and heart rate in a person standing in front of a camera.

HealthCam uses a combination of facial recognition and infrared technology. Along with monitoring the metrics listed above, HealthCam can recognize situations such as choking, sudden falls, abnormal breathing, collapse or even elder abuse, and more. The device can be wall-mounted in a residential building, office building, nursing home, fitness center, hospital emergency room, medical office, or any other location where continuous vital signs monitoring is useful.

The manufacturer plans to release home and commercial versions of HealthCam, which will have different capabilities in terms of room size, number of people monitored at the same time, amount of data collected and other characteristics.
