Developers showed how LibreOffice 8.0 will look with document tabs

The LibreOffice office suite development team has presented a layout of the interface for the upcoming version of the program with the 8.0 index. A significant change will be the introduction of built-in support for tabs for working with documents, which resembles that in browsers. You can switch between documents in the same way as between sites, drag and drop or unpin tabs.

The start screen can be accessed in the upper left corner by clicking on the icon with the name of the program. To do this, you do not have to close all documents, as it is now. The traditional menu (“File”, “Edit”, “View” and so on) is available through the drop-down list on the “Menu” tab. This tab itself is similar to the one in Microsoft Office. Nearby are the main commands such as Save, Undo, Print, and tabs for toolbars.

A new global search tool will appear that, in addition to document content, also searches commands, comments, the help system, and the list of recently opened files. The tabbed panel can be collapsed so that only icons and titles remain. Users will be given the opportunity to switch between three design styles: classic, traditional and standard.

LibreOffice 8.0 is undeniably very similar to Microsoft Office. Nevertheless, the software giant for some reason still has not implemented support for tabs with documents. It turns out that the LibreOffice developers were able to get ahead of their competitor in some way.
