DF investigates positive case of Covid-19 in a man from South Africa

The Health Department of the Federal District said this Tuesday (30) that it is investigating a positive case of Covid-19 of a man who arrived from South Africa on Saturday, November 27th.

“The Lacen-DF (Central Public Health Laboratory of the Federal District) has already started the analysis for the genetic sequencing of the sample, with the objective of verifying if it is the ‘micron’ variant, says a note from the Health of the DF.

According to the report, the flight is the same as the passenger from Guarulhos (SP) who also tested positive for the disease. The case is under investigation at the Instituto Adolfo Lutz, in São Paulo, to determine whether the new strain caused the disease.

Also according to the note from the Federal District, the man is between 40 and 49 years old and has already received three doses of vaccine against Covid-19. He is asymptomatic and has been in isolation since he landed in the DF.

So far, no case of the Ômicron variant has been identified in Brazil. To date, 19 countries have confirmed cases of the mutant strain, which is associated with a higher level of transmissibility.

Brazil, however, is on the list of nations that have adopted restrictive measures against flights from southern African countries.
