Dfinity founder criticizes Ethereum and Polkadot scaling solutions

Dfinity and Internet Computer (ICP) founder Dominic Williams criticized Polkadot and Ethereum’s second-tier solutions. In his opinion, they provide a “bad” user experience.

According to Williams (Dominic Williams), the rapidly growing ecosystem of second-tier solutions for Ethereum is turning this blockchain into a “Goldberg Machine” for “cloud second-tier applications.” Goldberg’s machine performs even the simplest tasks in the most complex ways.

Williams stressed that second-tier solutions for Ethereum open up many vulnerabilities. And the Ethereum network itself can be called a “second-tier cloud”, since most of its nodes use Amazon Web Services cloud resources.

“Many of these Proof of Stake networks that people are investing in so heavily are just tier 2 cloud applications. And we are very disappointed in this. The blockchain should not run on Amazon Web Services, where cloud administrators can steal validator keys and commit any crimes, ”Williams said.

In his opinion, flaws in second-tier solutions for Ethereum make the user experience very heterogeneous and often unpleasant. The founder of Dfinity also went through the Polkadot protocol, which is moving towards the creation of parachains and sharding. There has already been launched such a parallel blockchain called Acala Network. In his opinion, such a system would be inconvenient for users.

“DeFi is successful on the basis of Ethereum because the system of smart contracts works in a common universe, they can all interact, any developer can connect his smart contract to another. This will not work in parachains, ”stressed Dominic Williams.

Recall that the launch of the Internet Computer project took place in early May. Immediately after the launch, the ICP token entered the top ten leaders in terms of capitalization. Since then, the ICP rate has dropped significantly and now the project is ranked 15th.
