Dfinity Launches a ‘Blockchain Internet Computer’

The “Internet Computer” is what Dfinity has been mentioning as their innovative new network. Dominic Williams, president of the tech company, informed through a Medium blog post that the mainnet of the internet computer is now available. Although the statement was shared on January 6th, it states that the mainnet was first live on December 18th. While at 18,000 words the blog post sets out the narrative for the project, it has also set out the company’s strategy which had been estimated at approximately $10 billion in 2020. Also, the latest activation of the internet machine has been described earlier.

In reference with the quality of TikTok, the company had previously built a sample program which was called “CanCan” to show some of the capabilities of the Internet computer.

Importance of the Internet Computer

With the use of the Internet Computers, the creators can install their code directly on the public internet and dispense with server machines, commercial clouds services, by building websites, business IT systems and internet services inclusive system security. The machine also provides a way to reverse and undo the rising monopolization, and further restores the internet to its permission-less innovative roots.

The Internet Computer is built by a modern decentralized protocol which is called the “Internet Computer Protocol” that runs individual data centers around the globe. The native internet technology allows being hosted and is managed with the exact security guarantee as intelligent contracts.

Dfinity has enabled Software Development Kits to support various new languages which includes Motoko, Rust, and C.

A post has highlighted that in the upcoming 20 years, the Open Internet will precisely be larger than Big Tech’s closed proprietary ecosystem, which will soon be in the process of terminal decline. However, just like COBOL it will not easily be taken down.

Dominic William advised that the open versions of app such as Uber, TikTok, and Google Photos could be created. He further informed that his earlier blog post indicates that Open Rides service could theoretically award a few initial adopters, with management tokens. Dfinity is being funded by the likes of Andreessen Horowitz and Polychain.
