A work by renowned artist Emiliano di Cavalcanti was viewed by the general public for the first time in over half a century . The 2.77 meter high and 2.31 meters wide mural was resting on a wall with the same proportion in a Hall of Machado de Assis building in Rio de Janeiro since 1969.
The painting, Valued at R $ 8 million reais it was ordered by the contractor HC Cordeiro Guerra for the luxurious building. The Beira-Mar building in Copacabana has 570 square meters and a garden apartments on Avenida Atlantica and has been home of historical figures, such as former president of Brazil Juscelino Kubitschek.

In reference to the novelist writer who names the building, Machado de Assis, the work is inspired by the character Capitu, from the book Dom Casmurro, 1899.
The painting brings together elements such as the Flora of the Atlantic Forest, representations of the Brazilian female figure and references to iconic neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro, such as Lapa and Santa Teresa. “The result is a complex composition, rich in colors and details deeply connected to its pictorial universe,” according to exhibitors.
This week, after 56 years, the mural was first exposed at the Galatea booth at SP-Arte 2025. The fair, focused on the Brazilian art and design market, sold the work in recent days. The value and buyer were not revealed.
