Di Maio: Italy will not veto any sanctions on Russia’s energy sector

Italy will continue its efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian oil and gas as a “response” to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, despite concerns about rising fuel costs, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di told CNN. May.

“The cost of energy is our first concern at the moment, but Italy is not going to veto any sanctions that affect the energy sector,” Di Maio said on Wednesday.

“There are companies, for example, that pay 400% more for electricity. Right now, we have to stop this speculation by putting a cap on energy prices,” the Italian foreign minister told CNN.

“We are trying to get this through the EU and if we can do it through the European energy market, we will at least be able to stabilize the price increase for households. We will definitely push it forward before the next European Council,” he said.

It is recalled that on Monday, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced that his country had entered into an initial agreement to increase energy imports from Algeria after a meeting with its President Abdelmajid Teboun.
