Di Maio: We have no evidence of genocide in Ukraine, but everyone can see the horrors

“Italy has no data to determine whether genocide is being committed in Ukraine, but everyone can see the atrocities, the citizens and the children being killed,” said Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio.

“We must stop the escalation of tensions, we must help to resume the dialogue between Zelensky’s Ukraine and Russia,” the Italian diplomat added in an interview with Radio 24.

At the same time, he stressed that “Putin is not sending messages of peace and that is why sanctions must continue.”

“At this stage, food in Italy costs more, because Ukrainian ships can not carry it,” Di Maio said. He added: “As far as gas is concerned, we must prepare carefully for next winter” and that “the European Union can not succumb to blackmail in rubles”.

Speaking to Radio 24, the Italian Foreign Minister also stressed:

“We hope that in a week, Orthodox Easter will be an opportunity to persuade the Russians to accept a ceasefire. We are trying to achieve this, because it is the only solution to evacuate eastern Ukraine, where attacks are intensifying. “In order to evacuate the civilian population, to empty the orphanages, to remove the children from the Russian bombs.”
