Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio paid a visit to Azerbaijan yesterday and is currently in Armenia. At the top of the agenda of his talks in Baku was energy and the possibility of increasing gas supplies from that country through the Tap pipeline.
“Azerbaijan is a key partner for Italy, as it is the first supplier of oil and the third supplier of gas, with interesting opportunities to increase gas supplies,” said the Italian diplomat.
At the same time, as broadcast today by the Italian public television Rai, Luigi Di Maio, continues to be strongly in favor of the adoption of a ceiling, in terms of the purchase price of gas, by the member states of the European Union.
“According to Italy and many other EU countries, there is an urgent need to adopt a maximum price for the gas market,” the Italian foreign minister wrote online. “A veto can not be tolerated and there can be no divisions, Europe must act together,” he added before boarding the plane carrying him to Azerbaijan.
