Diabolik 2 arrives in November. Between Giacomo Gianniotti and Monica Bellucci

Between enthusiastic comments and memorable slurs, it certainly cannot be said that the Diabolik developed by the Manetti bros. he did not talk about himself. Thanks to a long gestation, a release date postponed by a year due to the pandemic and, above all, to a character so loved by popular culture that any attempt at staging – especially after Mario Bava’s 1968 film became for in some ways a cult – it could never please everyone in equal measure. In our opinion, the Diabolik of the new Millennium has managed to be remembered not only for having guessed the right interpreters – above all Miriam Leonewhich for the role of Eva Kant would have deserved the David as best actress -, but also for a setting very close to noir that seemed a real tribute to films of the forties such as The flame of sin by Wilder.

Antonello & Montesi

This is why the King of Terror will soon return in a new chapter entitled Diabolik – Ginko on the attack!: the theatrical release is scheduled for November 17, 2022, even if the news will not be lacking. The most important concerns the protagonist: it will no longer be Luca Marinelli who will put on the tight black onesie, but Giacomo Gianniottiknown to the general public for the role of Dr. Andrew DeLuca who he dressed in Grey’s Anatomy. The reasons for the change of course have not been clarified, even if it is a relief that, after the international success, Gianniotti finally meets his big chance at home, in a role as delicate as it is iconic that, we are sure, will be able to make him shine for what it has to offer.

Together with the return of Miriam Leone in the Eva and version of Valerio Mastandrea in that of the tireless inspector Ginko, however, we are waiting to see it in action too Monica Bellucci, that in Diabolik 2 will be Altea, the inspector’s eternal girlfriend, an extravagant and unconventional noblewoman with a strong character and great charisma. The plot, for the moment, is still top secret, even if we know that the subject was written by the Manetti bros. and Mario Gomboli, taken from the original story by Angela and Luciana Giussani, and that the screenplay is always signed by Manetti bros. and by Michelangelo La Neve. Diabolik – Ginko on the attack! is a Mompracem production with Rai Cinema, produced by Carlo Macchitella, Manetti bros., Pier Giorgio Bellocchio in association with Astorina and Bleidwin, with the support of the Emilia-Romagna Region and Friuli Venezia Giulia Film Commission.
