After a May marked by bad weather and a gray, overcast sky, in June the sun came out in most of Italy, in a very welcome early summer. If you spent the weekend outdoors and – damn you – you have not protected your skin with adequate SPF, here are the advice of two experts to relieve stressed and damaged skin from sun exposure. What matters is to remember the experience and, from now on, don’t forget the sunscreen.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE SKIN AFTER THE SUN OVERDOSE
As he points out Valentina Finotti, aesthetic doctor and plastic surgeon of Clinica Sotherga in Milan, «When taken in excess, without due protection and in the hottest hours of the day, the sun causes a real one skin burn. Which ranges from the mildest degree, signaled by the presence of widespread redness and, in some cases, of erythema, irritation with which the skin responds to the injurious stimulus, up to even first degree burns. In this case, in addition to the redness and burning sensation of the skin, the classic symptoms of sunstroke may also appear, such as chills, out-of-control sweating, fever, nausea, exhaustion and vomiting ».
SUGGESTED SOLUTIONS IF YOU HAVE TAKEN TOO MUCH SUN
We now come to the solution (or buffer) part of the problem. Second Riccardo Midolo, aesthetic doctor of LabQuarantadue Milan, “If the burn is intense and pain is felt, it is better to ask for a consultation with your doctor to be prescribed cortisone and anti-inflammatory drugsthe. If, on the other hand, you have “only” redness, but you do not feel pain, the best remedies are topical: yes a strongly moisturizing, refreshing and calming creams and gels, with in the foreground cosmetic formulas based on aloe vera and calendula, natural soothing agents that are very effective even in the presence of erythema alone. Apply your cream over and over again a day, creating a generous layer, like a pack. Don’t forget to hydrate yourself through nutrition: at least 2.5 liters of water per day, more fruit and vegetables rich in water reserves, such as strawberries, cucumbers, courgettes and melon ». Another post-sun recommendation from Dr. Finotti: «help yourself with thermal water spray, with high anti-inflammatory and calming power, plus moisturizing masks with pure hyaluronic acid. Better to repeat the obvious: in the days following the sunburn, never leave the house without high sun protection (50), so as to avoid further damage to the skin ».
