She had been admitted to the Perrino Hospital in Brindisi on December 17, where she had arrived in a state of preterm twin pregnancy and in critical condition due to a eclampsia.

Viviana was 41 years old, was a teacher and lived in Pezze di Greco, a fraction of Fasano, in the province of Brindisi, together with her husband Giacomo and their 6-year-old daughter Emma Maria. That second pregnancy was twins, a little brother and a little sister would arrive, a double joy to complete their family picture. But something went wrong in the third trimester of pregnancy, the situation suddenly became so complicated that it required immediate hospitalization in the seventh month. And despite the timely intervention of the doctors, who delivered the two children, and all the treatments attempted in intensive care in the following 5 days, there was nothing for the woman to do: on December 22nd she left .

“The picture was of eclampsia: placental abruption and rupture of membranes», reads a note released by the health company and reported by ToastReport. Therefore, «the patient was emergency operation: undergoing caesarean section she had disseminated intravascular coagulation (Cid) and uterine atony».
The healthcare company also highlighted that to save the woman’s life, all the medical, surgical and intensive care procedures foreseen in the treatment of these very serious cases were implemented.

The two newborns, Edoardo Maria and Emilia Maria, are still currently hospitalized and, with my heart divided between the greatest joy and the deepest pain, the father has decided to write a moving letter to the doctors and health workers of the Intensive Care Unit and the Intensive Care Unit to thank them for all the care and attention they have ceaselessly given to his wife over the five days she was between life and death.

Viviana was a woman, a wife, a mother out of the ordinary. I’m sorry you didn’t get the chance to meet her. She loved life but above all she loved her family, so much so that she sacrificed her life to give it to two fantastic creatures: Edward Mary and Emilia Maria. In reality all these characteristics of him will never die. It ‘s true, the normal pattern of life should not be this. It’s not fair that two beautiful twins never get the chance to meet their mom and that a 6-year-old girl (Emma Maria) can no longer embrace his star.

But behind all this pain, behind all this injustice there is still a positive aspect, having met all of you, whose names I don’t remember but who for five long and hopeful days were the guardian angels of my wife, of my parents’ mother children.

Seeing the tears in your eyes made me understand all your humanity and how much you sweated, studied to try to give Viviana hope. But unfortunately, as you have taught me, in medicine 2 plus 2 never equals four.

However, I feel the duty to thank you from me, from my daughter (who I hope can do your job) and from all my family for the commitment, professionalism and humanity that makes you real guardian angels in the flesh and bones.
