The Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu one of the most prominent stars in the Chinese-speaking world, died of a flu-related disease at age 48, Taiwan’s official official news agency said on Monday (3).

Hsu died of pneumonia after catching flu during a family vacation in Japan, he said younger sister Dee Hsu in a statement shared by his agent, the CNA said.

“I am grateful to be your sister in this life, for taking care and accompanying each other. I will always be grateful to her and miss you, ”he wrote.

The star has faced health problems in recent years, the sister said previously on television.

Widely known as “Big S”, Hsu reached fame at the age of 17 in the mid -1990s alongside his younger sister in the Mandapop duo.

Many Chinese celebrities also expressed shock with the death of Hsu. “What a radius of nowhere,” wrote his castmate of “Meteor Garden”, Ken Chu, in Weibo.

Hsu retired from the entertainment industry in 2022 after the end of his 11 -year marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofefei, a hot topic on social media on both sides of Taiwan’s Strait.

She leaves her husband, Korean rapper Koo Jun-Yup, and two sons of her previous marriage.
