The lag of gasoline in relation to the international market rose again in Brazil, after almost a practically stable week, while that of diesel rose even more this Friday (29).
According to the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), diesel is 27% behind the prices practiced in the Gulf of Mexico, while the price of gasoline registers a difference of 11%.
On the 50th day without an increase in both fuels by Petrobras, the state-owned company would have to increase the liter of diesel by R$1.71 and that of gasoline by R$0.45, according to Abicom.
Both oil and the dollar, used as a basis for calculating the lag, as well as import costs, have registered great volatility in recent days, but remain at high levels.
The lag in the ports used as a reference by the state company (Itacoatiara, Itaqui, Suape, Santos and Araucária) reaches 29% for diesel, while in the port of Aratu, in Bahia, where the Mataripe Refinery, controlled by Acelen, operates, this difference drops to 20%.
The private refinery has been making readjustments almost every Friday, in the late afternoon.
According to Abicom, this lag prevents imports, which will depend on large importers such as Petrobras, RaÃzen, Vibra and Ipiranga.
Brazil imports 25% of the diesel consumed in the domestic market and about 3% of the gasoline.
The need for adjustment by Petrobras, to avoid a shortage in the country, has led the government to study subsidies for fuels in this election year.
The idea is to pay Petrobras to mitigate the increases in the consumer’s pocket.
