Diesel must rise by R$ 0.62 per liter to reach international parity, says Abicom

Diesel in the Brazilian market should rise by R$ 0.62 per liter to be in line with the international market, according to data from the Brazilian Association of Fuel Importers (Abicom), which sees a lag of 11% in the price of fuel, whose price tends to rise even more globally due to the arrival of winter in the Northern Hemisphere.

“The international diesel market and the exchange rate pressure domestic prices. Arbitrage is unfavorable for imports”, stated Abicom in its daily report on international prices in comparison with the domestic market.

Oil began to rise worldwide after the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies (OPEC+) decided to cut production by 2 million barrels a day.

Meanwhile, the dollar in Brazil has been rising against the real, and on Thursday (6th) it rose by 0.50% on the spot market, reaching R$5.2099, while the November futures dollar ended higher. of 0.46%, at R$ 5.2480.

Gasoline is also priced out of step with the Gulf of Mexico, registering a difference of 9% in relation to the Brazilian market.

According to Abicom, to be attractive for importation, the fuel should have a readjustment of R$ 0.32 per liter in the refineries.

The last readjustments practiced by Petrobras, the dominant agent in the Brazilian market, were carried out 18 days ago, in the case of diesel, and 36 days ago, in the case of gasoline.

Both were down, 4.07% and 4.8%, respectively.

Sought, Petrobras stated “that there is no single reference and that is perceived in the same way by all agents, whether they are refiners or importers”, and that “it continues to monitor the market and the movements in the market prices of oil and derivatives, continuously, which currently experiences high volatility,” he said in a note.

“The company reaffirms its commitment to the practice of prices in balance with the market, without passing on the cyclical volatility or speculative movements such as those that are being observed recently”, added the state company.
