Digital skills from Microsoft are acquired by 3,500 public executives

The results of the training programs for the improvement of digital skills for Public Administration provided by Microsoft, in the framework of the National Alliance for Digital Skills and Employment were presented today, Tuesday 14.06.2022, by the Ministers of Interior Makis Voridis and Digital Governance Kyriakos director of Microsoft Greece, Cyprus and Malta Theodosis Michalopoulos and the president of the National Center for Public Administration and Local Government (EKDDA) Paraskevi Dramalioti.

According to a statement from the ministry, Mr. Voridis pointed out that “the huge challenge that modern Public Administrations have to face is to succeed in maintaining their regulatory role and to be in sync with the requirements of the private sector, so as not to become a hindrance to development. In order for this to happen, Public Administrations will have to evolve digitally and at the same time employees need to acquire the necessary digital skills. “The results of this collaboration are exceptional and the issue of digital skills certification is of great interest.”

Mr. Pierrakakis, for his part, stated that: “we need to invest in public executives, so that they acquire the necessary skills and can use digital tools. From the Recovery Fund there are programs that will completely upgrade the way it works the State, as for the first time we will have as a state a single ERP system (business planning system) like the ones that the big companies have.Certified knowledge enrichment programs like the ones provided by Microsoft we see that they cover a range of targeted skills and I am glad “especially since we have allies in this effort.”

Mr. Michalopoulos stressed that “Greece has made a digital leap in the public sector in the last three years and this training initiative for 3,500 executives stands out for three reasons: For each participating civil servant there is a specific training plan to strengthen the data of its role and the duties of its position, the civil servants are trained by certified trainers and have access to Microsoft material and, finally, it is possible to certify the employees who are trained in the use of Microsoft technologies. “Civil servants and second in Europe in the number of basic skills certifications. Our goal is to expand this program and I hope this will be a start for all people in the public sector to see that this is an opportunity for themselves.”

As Mrs. Dramalioti underlined “with the first pilot phase, which aimed at the gradual familiarization of 500 civil servants – IT executives with the Microsoft cloud technology environment, two Training Programs (Microsoft Azure & Microsoft 365) were offered, while in the second phase (December 2021 – June 2022), which is currently underway, aims to expand knowledge and skills through more and more specialized programs (eighteen more). K.D.A. at all levels of education, with the possibility of participation, free of charge, in the Microsoft certification examination, as well as its recognition by the Greek State. corresponding cooperation of Microsoft with public administration of another country “.

During the implementation of the above programs, a total of 3,500 executives of the Public Administration were trained, while 250 of them obtained the relevant certification.

73% of the participants were men and 27% women, 49% of them had a master’s degree and 8% a doctorate, 27% hold a position of responsibility and 73% are employees while 55% come from the Attica Region and the remaining 45% from the rest of Greece.

The goal of the Government is:

• By 2023 the number of students already trained has increased by more than 50%,

• The specific cooperation to be extended to all levels of education after evaluation of the level of digital skills of the candidates,

• Provide, to all learners, the opportunity to participate in the Assessment – Certification processes of Microsoft knowledge and skills,

• Provision for Certification of successful candidates and Scoring of training.

The General Secretary was also present at the press conference. Of Digital Governance and Simplification of Procedures, Leonidas Christopoulos, and the Secretary General Public Sector Human Resources, Paraskevi Charalambogianni.
