Former president Dilma Rousseff received the Chinese Friendship Medal from Chinese President Xi Jinping this Sunday (29), in a ceremony held in the Great Hall of the People, in Beijing.
The Friendship Medal is China’s highest state honor for foreigners, awarded to individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to supporting China’s socialist modernization, promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and foreign countries, and safeguarding world peace.
The medal symbolizes the long-standing friendship between the people of China and the rest of the world.
On September 13, Xi Jinping signed a presidential order to award national medals and national honorary titles to 15 individuals on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), which falls on October 1.
Dilma has presided over the New Development Bank (NDB) since March 2023. Headquartered in Shanghai, the bank was created in 2015 by the BRICS group of emerging economies.
