Dina Titus: Democratic lawmaker explains how Ankara’s hopes for F-16 can be “ended”

THE Turkey is running a “race” to acquire the fighters F-16 from the USA and Joe Biden may have assured Erdogan that he intends to strengthen the Turkish arsenal, but Bob Menendez’s amendment creates serious obstacles.

Dina Titus, a Democrat, spoke on OPEN’s news bulletin and emphasized that this particular amendment is part of the defense bill. Thus, in the event that the American president disagrees with a provision, he has the right to veto, but this will include the entire bill and not part of it.

“We hope it will pass because the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Senator Menendez, is very supportive and has come to the House having passed this strong bipartisan resolution,” he said.

At the same time, he added that “this encourages us, that (the resolution) will remain in the defense bill when it reaches the Senate level.”

Also, regarding Biden’s right to veto, he said that “he should veto the entire defense bill, as this amendment is part of the bill. I don’t believe the president will veto the defense bill.”
