The evacuation of part of the staff of the Consulate General of Mariupol, all the journalists housed in the premises of the Consulate General, as well as Greek citizens wishing to leave was decided according to diplomatic sources, given the security situation in the Mariupol area, but also according to Russian announcements that a humanitarian corridor will open tomorrow, March 2, for citizens to leave Mariupol to the East.
The car procession under Ambassador Francesco Costelleno is expected to depart from Mariupol by road tomorrow at 11.00. It is noted that the movement will be done by own means.
The Greek citizens who had expressed interest in leaving Mariupol are informed by the Consulate General and the Crisis Management Unit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The plan is for the procession to move to the city of Zaporizhia and then, depending on the conditions, to the border with Moldova, where there will be a ladder of the Embassy of Bucharest under Ambassador Sofia Grammata to provide them with all possible assistance.
The Consul General in Mariupol Manolis Androulakis will remain at the Consulate General, which will continue to operate.
