The two letters of the Greek side to the UN Secretary General reject the whole of the Turkish argument about “linking” the Greek sovereignty of the islands with their supposed obligation of demilitarization, emphasize diplomatic sources commenting on the new threats expressed today by Ankara.
In particular, diplomatic sources point out that regarding recent statements by a senior Turkish official regarding the “interconnection” of Greek sovereignty of the islands and the adjacent Aegean islands with the alleged obligation to demilitarize these islands, the Greek side has sent two letters to the General UN, which rejects all Turkish arguments.
According to the Foreign Ministry, the two letters of the Permanent Representative of Greece to the UN Secretary General underline a series of legal arguments that the unilateral objections of the Turkish side are not legal, have clear revisionist motives and further fuel the Turkey with its actions.
It is recalled that earlier today Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu reiterated the threats that Turkey would raise the issue of sovereignty over Greek islands if Greece “continues to violate their demilitarized regime”.
