Direct attacks between Israel and Iran are over, says regional intelligence source

A regional intelligence source with knowledge of Iran's potential reaction to the Israeli attack this Friday (19), according to a US official, said that direct attacks between the two enemies were “over.”

US sources confirmed that Israel carried out an attack in the province of Isfahan, about 350 kilometers from the capital Tehran. The Iranian defense system was activated and shot down what were believed to be three Israeli drones.

The source, who was not authorized to speak publicly, spoke to CNN on condition of anonymity about two and a half hours after the CNN first reported the attacks.

The source said that, to his knowledge, Iran was not expected to respond to the attacks – but did not give any certainty.

Iranian government officials have so far tried to minimize the impact of Friday's attack.

The Israeli military did not comment and Iran did not identify the source of the attack.

The attack

Israel carried out a direct attack against Iran this Friday (19), as confirmed by a United States official to CNN. The target was not a nuclear installation, according to the source.

Iranian state television also said nuclear facilities had not been hit. An army radar may be one of the targets of the attack, and windows of several office buildings were broken in the area, according to Iran's Fars news agency.

Air defense systems were activated in Isfahan province and shot down three drones, according to the Iranian state agency. An Iranian official told Reuters that there was no missile attack and that the explosions heard were the result of the activation of air defense.
