Direct investments in the country totaled US$ 9.1 billion in September this year. According to a note on External Sector Statistics of the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), released this Monday (24), of the total amount invested in the month, US$ 3.4 billion was in equity, while US$ 5, 7 billion referred to intercompany transactions.
In comparison with September 2021, the IDP recorded an increase of almost 100%, since last year, direct investments totaled about US$ 4.6 billion. From January to September of this year, the indicator reached the mark of US$ 70.6 billion, while in the same period of 2021, the value was US$ 43.2 billion.
Also according to the Central Bank, current payment transactions registered a deficit of US$5.7 billion in September 2022, compared to a deficit of US$1.9 billion in September 2021. In the twelve months to September 2022, the deficit in current account totaled US$46.2 billion (2.56% of GDP), compared to US$42.4 billion (2.38% of GDP) in the previous month and US$23.4 billion (1.49% of GDP) in September 2021.

The balance of travel expenses registered a deficit of US$ 491 million, that is, Brazilians spent more abroad than foreigners in Brazil. According to the BC, in September of this year, a total of US$ 416 million was spent by foreigners in Brazil, while Brazilians consumed around US$ 907 million abroad.
From January to September this year, the balance has already registered a deficit of US$ 5.3 billion. This is because, during this period, US$ 3.6 billion was spent in Brazil, and US$ 8.9 billion was spent by Brazilians abroad.

International reserves totaled US$327.6 billion in September 2022, a decrease of US$12.1 billion compared to the previous month. According to the Central Bank, “the result was mainly due to changes in prices and parities, which contributed to reduce the stock by US$6.5 billion and US$2.5 billion, respectively.”
