Direct investments in the country total US$ 8.3 billion in November

Direct investments in the country totaled US$ 8.3 billion in November this year. According to the External Sector Statistics note of the Central Bank of Brazil (BCB), released this Wednesday (21), of the total amount invested in the month, US$ 4.8 billion were in capital participation, while US$ 3, 5 billion were related to intercompany transactions.

Compared to November 2021, the IDP (Direct Investments in the Country) recorded an increase of around 65%, since, last year, direct investments totaled around US$ 5.03 billion. From January to November of this year, the indicator reached the mark of US$ 82.2 billion, while in the same period of 2021, the value was US$ 51.6 billion.

Also according to the Central Bank, current payment transactions registered a deficit of US$ 60 million in October this year, while in the same period of 2021, a deficit of US$ 8.5 billion was registered.

In the last twelve months, until November of this year, the current account deficit totaled US$52.4 billion (2.78% of GDP), compared to US$60.8 billion (3.26% of GDP) in October 2022, and US$47.5 billion (2.89% of GDP) in November 2021.

Spending by Brazilians abroad

The balance of travel expenses registered a deficit of US$ 641 million, that is, Brazilians spent more abroad than foreigners in Brazil. According to the Central Bank, in November of this year a total of US$ 443 million was spent by foreigners in Brazil, while Brazilians spent around US$ 1.08 billion abroad.

Until November of this year, the balance already registers a deficit of US$ 6.65 billion. That’s because, during that period, US$4.48 billion was spent in Brazil, and US$11.13 billion was spent by Brazilians abroad.
