Director explains why new “Transformers: The Beginning” has no humans

The first feature film in the “Transformers” franchise without the presence of humans, “Transformers: The Beginning “, premiered in Brazilian cinemas last Thursday (26). For those who might find the absence of human characters strange, the director of the new animation, Josh Cooley (known as “Toy Story “), 45, explained that this choice was intentional and justified within the narrative.

“Since this is an origin story, we start the timeline millions of years before Earth existed, so humans are not present anyway,” he told CNN . “However, even if humans were around, we wouldn’t need them, because this story could have been told at any time.”

“The Transformers themselves are very human in their experiences; This is the most human story we’ve ever told with these characters “, he continued. “So it was important to allow these characters to express emotions in ways that audiences hadn’t seen before.”

According to Cooley, “Transformers: The Beginning” managed to explore the characters’ emotions in a deeper way precisely because there is no presence of humans in history .

For the future of the franchise the director still has no concrete plans. However, if “Transformers: The Beginning” gets a sequel, he guarantees that there is much more to be explored . “If we move in this direction, I believe we can delve even deeper into the emotional aspects of these characters, now that we have established their origins. . If you ask the [produtor] Lorenzo [di Bonaventura]he will say that even in live-action films, there is a need to further explore the complexity of these characters.”

In “Transformers: The Beginning”, we follow the trajectory of Orion Pax and D-16 before they became Optimus Prime and Megatron. Chris Hemsworth who voices Optimus Prime, revealed to CNN that the new film is about “friendship and loyalty”. The villain Megatron is voiced by Brian Tyree Henry an Oscar-nominated actor, who highlighted that his main objective with the film was to show a new perspective on the character’s story.
