Director leaves “Scream 7” after protagonists leave

Director Christopher Landon left the “Scream” franchise after the controversy involving the protagonists. Melissa Barrera, who debuted features five and six in the series, was fired after publishing about the conflict between Israel and Palestine.

After Barrera, “Wandinha” star Jenna Ortega also left the production. According to the deadlinethe actress left the film because of the filming schedule, which would conflict with the recording of the second season of the Netflix series.

Landon posted on his profile on X, formerly Twitter, about the departure of the new “Pânico”. “I formally left 'Scream 7' weeks ago,” he wrote. “This will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare. And my heart broke for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”

“I have nothing more to add to this conversation”, he continues, referring to Barrera’s dismissal. “I hope Wes’s legacy continues and thrives above the noise of a divided world. What he and Kevin created is something incredible and I was honored to have a brief moment in its splendor.”

The “Scream” series was created by Kevin Williamson and Wes Craven, with the first film in 1996. Starring Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, the film recently received praise from fans after the fifth film. Starring Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, the new film brings Ghostface back 25 years after the first crime, with the classic characters of the three protagonists of the first feature.

Landon directed films such as “Freaky – In the Body of a Killer” and “Paranormal Activity: Marked by Evil”, in addition to the two features “Death Gives You Congratulations”.

After losing Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera, production sources informed the Variety that the creative direction would be talking to Neve Campbell and Patrick Dempsey. The heartthrob participated in “Scream 3”.
