Alfonso Cuaron director of “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban “, was indicated to awards for participating in other films outside the franchise. The Mexican is one of ten directors to receive the Golden Globe, the Directors Guild of America Awards, the Bafta and the Oscar in the “Best Director” category for the same film, with “Gravity” and “Roma”.
Recently, the director commented that he hesitated in accepting the film in the Harry Potter franchise because he was not familiar with the story. “I didn't know the Potter universe very well and I was surprised to receive [o convite]. I was confused because this wasn’t on my radar”, he commented in an interview with Total Film.
At the beginning of his career, the feature film “Sólo con tu pareja” — directed while he lived in Mexico — was a critical success, leading to an invitation from Hollywood producers for Cuarón to work on some television programs in the United States.
After that, he signed a contract with Warner Brothers to direct “The Lens of Love” — a production with Meg Ryan and Matthew Broderick in the cast —, however the director became more interested in the script for “The Little Princess”, a film with two Oscar nominations. 1996.
The films that the Mexican directed were nominated for 11 Oscars, having received five of them. Cuarón won “Best Director” at the Oscars and Golden Globes in 2014 with the film “Gravity” and in 2019 with “Roma”. In addition to these, he won trophies at the Bafta and Critics' Choice Movie awards.

In 2013, when he went to receive the Golden Globe for “Gravity”, he apologized to Sandra Bullock for a mess on the film set, when he scared the actress. Cuarón said on stage that when he tried to say “I'm going to give you [an] ear piece” (“I'm going to give you a earphone”) and the protagonist understood “I'm going to give you herpes” (“I'm going to give you herpes”), due to the similarity of the sounds in English, intensified by the director's accent .
