The head of the US Food and Medicines Administration Department (FDA), Dr. Peter Marks, responsible for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of vaccines, resigned last night, according to a dismissal letter obtained by CNN .
Marks, director of the Agency’s Biological Evaluation and Research Center, was forced to leave employment, having received the option to resign or be fired.
The news of the resignation was first reported yesterday by The Wall Street Journal.
“It was clear that the truth and transparency are not desired by the secretary, but he wants a subservient confirmation of his wrong information and lies,” Marks wrote in his letter, referring to US Secretary of Human Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Marks’s resignation comes into force on Saturday, April 5.
In an email, an employee of the US Health Department (HHS) told the CNN “If Peter Marks does not want to support the restoration of science to its gold standard and promote radical transparency, then he has no place in FDA under the strong leadership of Secretary Kennedy.”
Marks was fundamental in the execution of the “Operation Warp Speed”-the Federal Government’s Covid-19 vaccine program.
He supervised the approval of latest vaccines as well, including the first influenza vaccine for self -administration or administration by caregivers, providing a new protection option against seasonal flu.
