After Joker, the agenda of Joaquin Phoenix she’s become worthy of a self-respecting Oscar-winning actor: chock full of commitments to honor and projects to complete. And so, after agreeing to play Napoleon Bonaparte in Kitbag, Ridley Scott’s new historical film, and having decided to complete filming of Gucci, the blockbuster with Lady Gaga, Jeremy Irons, Jared Leto, Adam Driver and Al Pacino, also directed by Scott, the actor has just signed a contract to appear in Disappointment Blvd., the new film by Ari Aster, former director of Hereditary e Midsummer.

The project, which will be carried out thanks to the support of A24, which will take care of the production and funding necessary to give the green light to the shooting, is described by Deadline come “An intimate portrait, which follows several decades, of one of the most successful entrepreneurs ever”. Until yesterday the film was known by insiders with the title of Beau is Afraid and it would have as its protagonist a man named Beau at the center of a very difficult relationship with his mother. It seems, therefore, that Aster has changed the project in the running, suggesting that they are two different stories.
At the moment, neither the start of filming nor whether Phoenix will devote himself to the film has been revealed before Kitbag, although we will see it soon too C’mon C’mon by Mike Mills, in which the actor plays an artist who must take care of a troubled niece on a journey across America. Also for this reason, for a niche author like Aster, securing Phoenix as a protagonist represents a considerable blow, perhaps capable of turning the attention of a more mainstream audience to the work of a director who has always had a lot to tell.
