Disco in your kitchen: LG introduced a refrigerator with LED-backlight

For users who think that the interior design of their kitchen looks too boring and discreet, LG has officially unveiled a new refrigerator called MoodUp during the IFA 2022 event (held in Berlin). The main feature of this representative of the household appliances market is that the manufacturer has equipped the doors of the device with backlit LED panels, the color of which the user can change independently for every taste and color. A total of 22 color options were implemented for the top panel and 19 for the bottom (yes, for some reason LG could not implement the same set of color schemes for the two halves of the door of the same refrigerator).

The user can control the backlight colors of the panels from a smartphone using a special application from LG – there are both sets of predefined color schemes (they correspond to different seasons of the year and the user’s mood), and the ability to combine colors for the upper and lower panels manually. Accordingly, the user can create the perfect design option to his taste, which in theory allows you to organically fit the refrigerator into the interior of any kitchen. Or, when you change the furniture or the color of the walls, the refrigerator can be “repainted” in the tone of a new repair with a couple of clicks on your smartphone – it sounds really interesting.

In addition, the MoodUp refrigerator has a built-in Bluetooth speaker, to which you can connect a signal source and play music. But the main feature of this solution is that the backlighting of the panels can be synchronized with the track, changing the backlighting to the beat of the musical composition. Actually, without this synchronization, a potential buyer would just have a refrigerator with a speaker, but it is possible to arrange full-fledged discos with light music right in the kitchen without any additional devices and equipment. How much will it be in demand in real life? The question is rhetorical.

True, LG MoodUp panels have really useful features. For example, the LED light will flash if you don’t close the refrigerator door or keep it open for too long. True, the sound notification, which 99% of modern refrigerators have, performs the same function with the same efficiency. Also at night, the door will be illuminated in case the owner wants to have a snack in the middle of the night. Ultimately, this is a very unusual response to the Samsung Bespoke refrigerator line with interchangeable panels in different colors, but, most likely, the price of such pleasure will be impressive if the model ends up in the series at all.
