To get in the mood Halloween NASA listed six planets that would be the perfect home for monsters most famous in fiction.
These worlds are very far from Earth, as they are all exoplanets — those that are outside our Solar System. Some have very adverse conditions for humans, but they may be exactly what the monsters need for this Halloween.
Ideal climate for Frankenstein’s monster

HAT-P-11 b (Kepler-3 b) offers perfect weather for the monster created by Doctor Frankenstein: lots of huge lightning storms. After all, it was electricity from lightning that allowed the monster to come to life in the horror story.
Although the creature was despised by humanity on Earth, it could find a new home on this planet 122 light years away.
Perfect lighting for Dracula

The planet YZ Ceti d, about 12 light years from Earth, offers pleasant conditions for the most famous vampire in fiction.
Dracula may live on the dark side of the planet, where it is always night, as he never receives the light from his star.
And if he decides to venture to the bright side, he can stalk his victims under the light of a blood-red sun.
Enough moons for many werewolves

At 41 light-years, TRAPPIST-1 b is just one of a group of seven planets, but it could be ideal for werewolves who like to take on their wolf form.
While one of its sides is perpetually in the dark, the other is illuminated by its red star.
On the night side, it is always dark enough for the other six planets to shine like moons in the sky, reflecting the light of their respective stars. With six “moons”, the chance of at least one of them being full every day is high.
Mummies in the desert

Proxima Centauri b, four light years from Earth, will look very familiar to mummies who are used to resting in the desert.
A dry, rocky world that likely lost its oceans after bursts of radiation from its star.
undead planet

Maybe zombies like living on a planet 158 light years away that, metaphorically, is also undead.
HD 209458 b “Osiris” — named after the Egyptian god of the dead — is being rapidly destroyed by its star.
Parts of its atmosphere are scattered throughout space, as well as zombies that are losing parts of their bodies, and soon the planet will be destroyed by gravity.
Ghosts wandering through the cemetery

Three planets continue to wander through the remaining magnetic field of their star, which died after exploding eons ago.
The pulsar planets, which wander like ghosts through the cemetery, are each named after an undead creature from mythology: Poltergeist, Draugr and Phobetor.
