Discover where to have a delicious breakfast in Lima, Peru

THE capital of Peru is known for its award-winning restaurants. However, in addition to renowned establishments, File it also offers a number of more relaxed options and amazing coffees. One of them, which should definitely be part of any itinerary, is the Demo Café.

Located in charming Barranco neighborhood in a listed house with a restored facade, the Demo Café It has outdoor tables and a mouth-watering display, perfect for those who can’t resist a good carbohydrate.

Don’t forget to try the hot chocolate (S/14, around R$23), which is not overly sweet and has a subtle touch of spice, a very creamy one. The roast beef sandwich on crispy ciabatta bread (S/39, around R$63) is also an excellent choice, as are the Venezuelan recipes on the menu, prepared to perfection.

To the arepassmall discs made of corn dough, can be served in three versions (from S/17, around R$27). One of them comes with a soft cream cheese, another has avocado, poached egg and sauce, and the last combines ham, poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Additionally, there is the portion of tequeños with guasacaca (S/31, around R$50), cheese cones wrapped in dough and fried, accompanied by a typical Venezuelan sauce. And, of course, the unmissable cachapa con queso (S/30, around R$48), a sandwich that, at first glance, looks like tapioca, but is made from a corn “dough”, similar to that of arepafilled with mouth-watering melted white cheese.

Among the pastries, the croissant can come in the form of a sandwich with chicken, ham and cheese and other versions, but the traditional one (S/ 8, around R$ 12) deserves to be highlighted, as does the pain au chocolat (S/ 13, around R$20) and the apple galette (S/19, around R$30).

And if the house isn’t award-winning, the chef is, because the person behind this charming establishment is the Venezuelan chef Juan Luis Martínez, who also runs the acclaimed Mérito, in the same neighborhood (and who offers another equally unforgettable experience).
