THE disney released on Friday (9) the first teaser of the movie live-action “The Little Mermaid,” which will hit theaters next year. The film features Halle Bailey in the role of Princess Ariel.
First released at the D23 event, the teaser features a few seconds of Ariel singing a snippet of “Part of Your World”, one of the most recognizable songs from the original animation.
The film, directed by Rob Marshall, also responsible for “Chicago” and “Mary Poppins Returns,” is being billed as a retelling of the classic animated musical that won an Oscar in 1989.
In addition to Bailey, the film also features actor Daveed Diggs as the voice of the crab Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay (“Luca”, “Room”) as the voice of the fish Flounder and Awkwafina as the voice of the seagull Scuttle.
“The Little Mermaid” is scheduled to hit theaters on May 26, 2023 in the United States.
Also at D23, Disney released a trailer for “Disenchanted” sequel to “Enchanted” which will also be starring Amy Adams, and “Abracadabra 2”, and announced that it is producing for 2024 the films “Inside Out 2” and “Mufasa – The Lion King”.
